I don't have the temp sensor yet.
We've been running now for a few hours and the heat gun says the alt is around 200d, depending on where I read.
the Balmar ars5 manual says the temp sensor default is 105d.

Should I be concerned with long term alt temps over 200d?

Manual is "C" not "F"....

Update
We motored 34 hours from Beaufort to Charleston on Friday. At about hour 30 the tach needle went nuts, bouncing all over the place. After a few minutes of that, no tach reading at all and no output from the alternator. Ars-5 was lit but I didn't study the readings it was displaying; kinda busy. We kept going, since the battery bank could handle our needs for the day. We stopped for fuel and when we restarted, tach worked fine and alt output looked normal. We motored 24 hours to St. Simons with no further issues.

I haven't installed the temp sensor yet.
Load on the alt was light since we were at 100% charge when we left Beaufort. Heat gun readings were moderate all around the engine the entire time.
What happened?

The field on the reg likely shut down as the batteries were full and the solar was supplying what was necessary. When you shut down the field the tach also shuts off...

Since my charging system acts similarly, would adding a switch/breaker to the solar panel line to interupt the current return the tach to normal? Would it be better to have this breaker before or after the solar controller?
