Alternator Perkins 4-108

Just purchased a Endeavour 37 with a perkins 4-108. At time of purchase the alternator was bad, the previous owner switched the alternator last year because of a broke plug. However he wired up the new alternator and is not functioning at all. My question is, does anyone know which wires go where and or of a place where I can find the wiring schematic for the boat. I checked the popular endeavour sites with no luck. Any help here would be appreciated.

If it's like most

If it is an internal regulated alternator there should only be three wires. Battery which is obvious, it's the big red wire, the field lead, which should be marked F on the back of the alternator, and is hot when the key is on and a ground wire. Probably marked E on the alternator.

From what I Can see it has a wire running to the tach as well. but there are more than 3 wires.

I recommend doing a search on Google for "alternator wiring" which should find you a basic primer for alternator wiring. Really, not trying to be obvious, but there have been many, many posts about this, most of them linking to an article about "Alternators" and the wiring. I have the file saved on my computer and if you send me a pm I'd be glad to send it to you if you can't find it through Google. Please let me know.

Photo? Many different alts were used over the years on the 4-108 and this does not even include an aftermarket adaptation. Many were a Delco frame but some were Motorola frame size too...

We'll to be honest it looks like a delco alternator has the same long ear pattern and the six holes in the back just like a 10si, but I have never seen a 4 wire setup before. I know about a 3 wire not sure about this 4 wire and how it hooks up. I am a little apprehensive because I don't know for sure that the previous owner hooked up correctly.
