Recommissioning a 1985 Pierson 28 acquired this year. Have had a bit of difficulty in keeping the Batts charged, I did have the alternator reconditioned, but do not see anything more than the actual current voltage of the batt. being charged at the output of the alternator. I suspect that the exiter voltage is not correct and am looking for the experience of others prior to jumping into it- Thanks I have the engine model number, just not with me right now

Have you ever..

Have you ever turned the battery selector with the motor running? If you did, and passed through the OFF position, even momentarily, you may have fried the alternator diodes. You should be seeing anywhere between 13.5 and 14.5 volts with the motor running. Don't blindly trust your voltmeter and use a multi-meter to check first to confirm it's not your volt meter. This could be many things and you'll need to rule them out one by one.. On some engines the alt excite is driven off the oil pressure switch.....
