alternator advice

I'm replacing the alternator (off a chevy vega, I think) to hopefully
make the charging system for batteries right for the first time since
purchasing my Vega a year ago. The engine is a Yanmar YSE (8hp).
Any advice?

I would suggest using a marine alternator over a auto alternator.
There are either brushless or have spark screens. They may be other
differences and are Coast Guard compliant.
