Hey all, I'm meeting a canvas guy tomorrow to go over some particulars about a replacement dodger. I know that Sunbrella is the standard but I have heard some good things about Stamoid and Sea Mark (a sunbrella hybrid)and would love to hear from anyone who has first hand knowledge. I'm looking for a tight, neat and heavy weight result. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance, Tim

Sunbrella Plus

Tim: We just had a dodger made last year. The canvas guy did not want to use anything but Sunbrella. There is a Sunbrella product that is often referred to as Sunbrella Plus (vinyl coating on underside) which makes it a little more water proof and mildew resistant. He used the Sunbrella Plus on the top portion of the dodger. Our existing bimini is also made of the Sunbrella Plus. This may be the same thing that you are referring to by a different name.

some additional comments that I found.

"Stamoid is polyester fabric coated with vinyl. It is totally waterproof, light weight, stows easy and is very strong. Commonly used for hard top and t top enclosures and bimini tops. Very durable, lightweight and strong. Since it is vinyl it is easier to clean than sumbrella. Stamoid will not breath. Sumbrella will. The stamoid cover should have a couple vents built in, with the sumbrella it probably is not neccesary" Re: Seamark "The Ultimate Marine Fabric. It's an ideal combination of Sunbrella#reg;, the premier woven acrylic fabric, and Haartz textured marine-grade vinyl. The result is a rich, colorfast, waterproof fabric that stands up to the harsh conditions of any marine environment. Including salt, moisture, sun, wind and temperature extremes." Sounds like Seamark & Sunbrella Plus is the same type of product. Remember that Sunbrella is not very abrasion resistant. If you have anything rubbing on it, there is going to be some wear.
