Almost Trim question

What do most of you use to attach the tailtales to the sails?I need to put mine back on the sails.Buy the round tape/tailtales package from West Marine?Use sail repair tape?Hot air gun? kidding----What I've used so far is a combination of both above. For tailtales I've been using magnetic computer tape, 1/2in wide 6in long. This stuff is sosensitive to the wind that it is amazing.JimS/V Java

I use the round patches that come with the telltales and replace them as needed. I have also found that I need to place them closer to the luff on the genoa so I can more easily see them from the helm. I have been teaching new sailors how to use them and these are the best way to demo the sail trim verses speed. With the new GPS's the speeed change is shown almost immediately.Novelman

Jim: the easist thing is the ones WM sells. I've used just about everything including the green plastic tape one uses to tie up tomato plants!! The real trick is learning how to read them and to then make the sail trim adjustment they are indicating.

Sew them on

Magnetic tape is the cat's meow for sensing the wind. I also put a piece on each stay to help with slot control.I use a standard flat stitch to sew one to each side of the sail at the same time. Takes about 10 minutes to do a sail. Another way would be to sew in a reinforced slot where you want the tale-tail and then just attach them like you do a reef nettle.
