Ron: Here are a couple of tips on aligning your engine.
I used a empty thread spool (ask a sailmaker)to support the shaft. I
pushed this into the shaft log from inside and then pushed the shaft
through this. The inside of the spool measures 1" and the ouside of
the spool is a little smaller than the shaft log. Steve Birch has a
similar solution with some sort of tapered device.
Use the original installation forward most bolt for the forward motor
mount. Although the mount will be skewed it is the best way to align.
You will find that when the forward mounts are angled similarly to
each other the athwartships aligment is almost finished. After
aligning with shaft all you have to do is mark and tap the aft ones.
Then attack the up and down alginment. If I remember there was 8
threads visble. I used the plain washer on the bottom of the mount
and the split on the top of the mount. To speed things up do not use
the split washer until you have finished with the alignmnt.... much
faster to adjust.
I will take some pictures tomorrow. I have the luxury of the engine
being unencumbered by bulkheads. Putting the throttle cable in was a
bit of a fuss. Not much room to the fuel filter. You will have to use
the forward most atttachment for this cable.
Hope this helps
