About to order a new 306 (290). It comes with an alcohol stove, never had such a beast before and know nothing about them, could get an LPG cook top as an option - What do you think?????
WE HAVE AN OREGO 3000 ON OUR HUNTER 30 AND WE LOVE IT. IT IS EASY TO USE, COOKS WELL AND BEST OF ALL IS VERY SAFE. UNLIKE THE OLD PRESSURIZED ALCOHOL STOVES IT IS SO SIMPLE TO USE I DON'T NEED MY HUSBAND TO START THE COFFEE, ALL YOU NEED IS A MATCH. WE HAVE RECOMMENDED THIS UNIT TO ALL OUR FRIENDS WITH PRESSURIZED ALCOHOL. WHEN THEY SEE HOW EASY IT IS TO USE THEY HAVE CHOSEN ORIGO AND HAVE BEEN VERY HAPPY THEY DID. THE MAIN REASON I LOVE IT IS THE SAFETY ISSUES AND THE EASE OF USE. WE USE IT EVERY WEEKEND NOT JUST COFFEE AND EGGS BUT LUNCH AND DINNERS. I'M LOOKING FOR AN ORIGO WITH AN OVEN FOR OUR NEXT BOAT. HOPE THEY STILL MFG THE 6000.? GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW BOAT.
Just went from the non-press alcohol on an H31 to LPG on my newer 37.5 Love it. I like to cook on board, pasta, etc., and could never get the alcohol to work well enough for me. I'd much rather have CNG because its readily available in my area, and may convert. It really depends on your intended use, location, etc.
We use our stove 3 to 4 days a week for 2 meals a day. It does'nt flare up and is easy to light and snuff. I refuel it before we leave the dock or over the swim ladder if on the water. Alcohol fires can be put out with water and these stoves are easy to light and fill. Propane requires valves, hoses, bottles and jets. We use about 1 gallon of fuel for every 3 weeks of use. Probably about 20 to 32 meals. The fuel for these stove is found in most hardware stores in the paint section. Propane is great, but with the newer laws the age of the tanks is becomming a problem as the older ones can not be refilled. Also the newer tanks have different hose adapters.
