My 17"x8" diameter steel alcohol tank for my hellerange has a leak. It's original on my Catalina 30, 1983 and I see on the Seaward website they don't have parts for this any longer. Where can I get a tank? Please.

If the tank is made of brass

then just solder the leak. Drain the tank, let it dry, take the pump out and there is nothing to keep you from heating up a big soldering iron and fixing the leak.

Alchol tank

The tank is steel. I have scraped, primed and painted before and the metal is now wafer thin.

Fabricate One

I would check for a metal fabricator. I find that some of these guys can be found near airports. In any event, having a new one (of brass) shouldn't be a big expense. RD

It was wafer thin to start with

you can still solder it but first you have to get rid of the paint around the leak and you will need some zinc-chloride flux.

Where is the leak

Is the leak in the tank or at one of the piping outlets? If you are just repairing the tank then the advice below is all fine. If the leak is at one of the pipe connections then you are going to want to get it brazed. Solder will hold for a while but as it works from pumping and turning the stove on and off it WILL crack and then you end up with a big leak. Let me say, this kind of thing can really wake you up when you have a cigerette in your hand. Play it safe and get her brazed!
