i recently purched my first boat 1981 hunter h-25 it has an alcohol burning cook stove which does not work i would appreciate an tips on where to get it repaired. We camp on the boat every weekend hot food would be MUCH better than samiches thanks Jim

Stove Repair

Jim,I assume your stove is an Origo 1500 non pressurized alcohol stove.They are pretty simple, but one thing I am aware can happen is the gasket covering the fuel canister sticks.When you turn the knob of the stove, a metal plate slides either covering or exposing the fuel canister. When the knob is open, you should be able to look down the burner and see the fuel canister. If you see nothing but black rubber, the gasket is stuck. Remove it and get a new one from West Marine for $4.00.If you have other problems, please elaborate.Hope this helpsWard

Pressurized?

Chances are, given the vintage(1981), it is a pressurized stove. I think you have two choices and both require new(er) stoves. I opted for a non-pressurized Origo alcohol stove. Then there is the very expensive option of converting to propane.Except for Ward's point there is almost nothing to go wrong with a non-pressurized stove. Mine boils a kettle of water almost before I can get the French press filled with coffee. Burgers cook faster than they do at home on my big propane grill.But it is possible to still buy the parts for the burners of your stove. Just be very careful with a pressurized stove.

I love my Origo one burner. It goes forever on a filling of a qt. Stay with non-pressurized alcohol.
