The Kenyon Homestrand pressurized alcohol stove model 550A on my recently-purchased '81 Hunter 33 wasn't working, so I removed it and the tank and took it home to clean it up (photo attached). I have been struggling to get the damned hoses back together, and in particular, the flexible hose that goes from the tank to the stove. No matter how hard I tighten the compression fittings (with teflon goo on it), they continue to leak. Can anyone tell me if the hoses need O-rings or whether there is some secret to re-attaching them? Also, if anyone else has any wisdom regarding old alcohol stoves, I'm all ears (or eyes, as it were). TIA

Out With The Old

We had an old Kenyon on our '74 Islander 41.After we found out that new burners were $400 to replace all 4 we decided to shop for a new range/stove.The pressurized alcohol systems are dangerous with flare ups and need constant attention. We went with an Origo 6000.It cooks faster then the Kenyon, simple to use and safe.I've had boats with kerosene, propane and CNG and this was the best overall solution for us.We do use the higher grade of alcohol since it burns cleaner(less soot).A little more expensive but worth it.I did try and find a new pressurized alcohol stove and was not able to.I would think one reason is their safety record.
