Alcohol or propane

I have a propane camp type stove now. I think that I would like to go to a smaller alcohol stove. My wife is worried abou the fumes from a propane bottle and is not really comfortable around a fuel stove anyway. I store my bottles overboard and only hook them up to cook. I dont really mind the campstove. The alcohol stove is much more expensive, but is it that much more safe? Seth Dixon Quiet Time Oday 25

absolutely

Although the alcohol does not burn quite as hot as propane, and it is more difficult to see the flame, it can be put out with water therefore is much safer. I have often wondered if a pressurized alcohol stove would be significantly better that typical wick style alcohol stoves.

Wick is better

We went from a pressurized alcohol stove to an Origo two burner wick style. We were very happy with it. In fact, when we moved up to a bigger boat we took out the propane stove and replaced it with the Origo.
