Yeah, I think it was second time we used it we overfilled a heating bowl (couldn't see the pooled alcohol in the pan) and lit the stove that came on our GS. Next thing we knew the alcohol in the pan below the burners was also on fire.I guess its the pressurize alcohol stoves that give the most problems. (from what I read) -where people can't see the flames and burn themselves.
AFAIK, the oringo are not pressurized. but of course alcohol absorbs water, so if the seal is bad, water forms, and you could have trouble getting it to burn.
OTOH, water puts alcohol fires out, and thus the reason so popular on boats.
I use a turkey baster to fill it...much safer way to refill as you worry less about spilling.merlinuxo said:Yeah, I think it was second time we used it we overfilled a heating bowl (couldn't see the pooled alcohol in the pan) and lit the stove that came on our GS. Didn't know about putting out the fire with water so I got to clean that nasty powder from a fire extinguisher off of and out of everything in the salon. No matter how careful it's used that crap gets everywhere.
The stove was next to the club dumpster that same day and no one wanted it so off to the dump.
Replaced it with a Princess LPG that worked great with no problems for years and is still on the boat.
This was an old pressurized stove and we (I think it was me) overfilled the bowl that warms the burner before it can be lit.I use a turkey baster to fill it...much safer way to refill as you worry less about spilling.
However, I am curious...do the recessed origo's have that problem? My old non-origo did, but it sat on top.
