Albin Vega Wanted

Looking for a boat in original condition - will consider repowering if
the rest of the boat is in decent shape. I don't mind cosmetics, but
the boat must be solid and the gelcoat must be good. Interior issues
not a problem.

Prefer California but I will travel for the right boat.

I will also need a trailer if anyone knows of one.

Thanks.

Hans

Hi Hans;
I've been lately thinking of selling my Vega (257). I own
the boat almost 30 years, she is in good shape, new Yanmar
10GM,about 200 hours on. Why do I think of selling? I'm 80
years old, a week ago I had a bad accident, and guess
where? I steppped off the boat, got tangled up in the
life-lines, fell upon the concrete dock, broke 2 rips and
bruised my body quite a bit.
If you're interested, I give you details. I live in Miami,
FL. I'm asking $12,000

Wilhelm,
I am so sorry to hear about your accident. I hope your heal
quickly and are back to full form soon. I have always appreciated
your comments. Perhaps you will reconsider but, if you do decide to go
ahead and sell the boat, I hope you will stay in touch with the
message board. Your experience is an important and valuable
contribution to the group. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Wilhelm,
Sorry to hear about your accident, and even more sorry to hear you want to sell your Vega. Hopefully you will stay in the forum. Just out of curiosity, how much is the slip fee where she is docked? It is just north of Jew Fish creek bridge if I remember right.

Hi Frank;
I'm not so sure I really want to sell my Vega- she's like
family to me (own her long enough).
You're right, my boat is in the Manatee Bay Marine, been
there for about 25 years. Very secure- never had a problem
(only falling off the boat lol). Dockage is about $200.00 a
month.

Hi Craig;
thanks a lot for the kind words- made me forget the pain
(though I know it will come back- those things take time to
heal)
I met some very nice folk in this forum and have no thought
of leaving. Besides- I haven't sold my Vege yet... :)

Thank you to everyone who responded with boats and leads.

I followed up with Bert's lead, but the boat was gone.

I am going to see Paul's this weekend (local even!)

I wrote to Wilhelm, and will keep his in mind, although finding a
trailer on the boat end without being there is really tough.

I'm glad to have such a supportive group.

Thanks again,

Hans

Just wanted to let you know that I still have my Vega for sale here in Texas. I am selling here for $2,500.00 Firm. I do not have a trailer and she does have a small leak where the prop shaft used to be. She has a 9.9 outboard. Take care Andi 2108898725 She is a great buy for what I'm asking.

Hey there,

Just curious if anyone has laid a teak sole (vineer or plywood) in their Vega, and if so, might you have any advice. It really looks sharp, but it does create another thing to take care of and maintain. the previous owner(s) spilled a combo of teak oil and or battery acid on the sole, and I can't seem to get rid of the stains. Would a paint work to brighten it up?

Erand sent me some information that was helpful, but would love to hear from others that might have done similar work.

Thanks
Chris

What I did to my Vega was to repaint the cabin sole using Interlux Bilgekote. I mixed a white can and a gray can to get a nice light gray. That paint is so tough, I am really amazed at the abuse it takes. It also is so easy to use, as it is a one-part polyurethane.

Fairwinds to all,

Cedric

Great idea,

I didn't even consider bilgekote, although I was going to use it on the hull inside the hanging lockers and under the setees to try to neaten all that up and thus make it a bit easier to keep clean. Never considered it for the sole!

Thanks Cedric!
Chris

Hans,

Am ready to consider selling my Vega. Located in Channel Islands harbor,
Oxnard, CA. She is in prime mechanical and sailing condition. Hull gel coat
is excellent. New mainsail and recently rebuilt Yanmar 2GM.
Am willing to negotiate.

Hey everyone!

Anyone know how to work on these units? I think that the bearings may have seized thus the charge is being redirected back to the regulator which may be the cause for the chatter that I hear in the box. Just a theory, but I have all the other systems, the power goes to the lights, blower, radio, etc... just can't seem to get the juice to the starter, or it is getting there and the thing has seized up on me!

Any of you fellow Vega owners in the New England area know of a good place to have the starter bench tested and/or rebuilt (fixed)?

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Chris

Chris-
Last year when I did the deck I also did the cabin sole. The paint
was Sterling. Added a little tint to it, same as the non-skid. Looks
great, big improvement over the battle scarred sole previously.
