An unfortunate turn of events forces me to sell my beloved Vega.

She has gone through an extensive refit and is ready to go down south
this season. Her condition is excellent and her systems are in great
if not new condition.

All information can be found at: www.sailinglyra.com

Might any of you brave MD6A owners out there know of a FRAM, AC DELCO, or something similar (and readily available) to replace the oil filter on the MD6A?

I am heading up to the boat this weekend, and think I may do an oil change and filter change, so was wondering if I might be able to pick up an automotive replacement part? Any suggestions?

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris

You need to know if your MD6A has an original oil filter fitting or if
an adaptor has been fitted.

Original oil filter has a threaded stub coming out the bottom which
screws into the engine block. Crossland 471

If it is like an ordinary filter with a threaded hole then an adaptor
has been fitted. I found it best to take old filter to Motor Factors to
try and match.

Cheers

Chris,

I traced an alternative for the original fitting filter via I think the AC Delco web site, however I have just explored a file of old bills for 'Alkira' and come up with the following.

Part number W711/80 (was Z 1015 - I think this is the AC Delco reference) appears to be the one you want. This is described as a Lexus / Toyota filter and fitted without problem as I recollect.
For information, with a little research I think you will also find an alternative for the main fuel filter on the MD6A.

Regards to all.
Frank.

Oh, OK.

Thanks Steve, I do believe that the oil filter is original though I have not had a good look at it. Not much space there in the compartment to remove and replace it. Will check it out this weekend and perhaps the chandlery at the club will be able to match it!

Hello again Chris.

Having noted the comments from Steve I would just check the fitting on the alternative I suggested. I can't remember if this had the male or female attachment however I don't recollect the MD6A in Alkira having an adaptor plate fitted, the filter appeared to seal directly on to the engine block. I therefore believe the filter I suggested to be an alternative to the 'original' fitment.

Best of luck,
Frank.

Hi Frank!

Thanks again for the tip. I will try it and see. Worst thing that can happen is that it doesn't fit, and then I try something else.

Cheers!

I'm afraid the answer's a bit late for the weekend, but assuming you've got the stub adaptor fitted to the engine as noted by Steve B, I can report that all of the following list of Oil Filters fit the MD6A Mann W77, Champion C 116, Crossland 659.Framm PH2874 (They're all for Renault 4 or 1.1 litre Renault 5 cars).

For future reference, suitable diesel filters are Crossland 658 or Framm P5770

I've used all of these successfully
