Looking for an inexpensive way / device to transmit an AIS signal. I am not so worried about seeing tankers via an AIS transponder, but I want them to see my 30' sailboat on Lake Ontario and St. Lawerence Seaway on their screens. Everything is 700 dollars or better.

Look at Digital Yacht products. I use there AIS sender receiver in conjunction with nav software (inavx) on my iPad. Very happy with it. And pretty reasonable priced.
