AIS up and running

This weekend I installed my AIS class B transponder. I interfaced it with my Garmin 3206 chartplotter and my laptop. You can see our track from our weekend anchorage and our current location.

Tim I use laptop plotter with a program that has a AIS feature. What gear did you install and what goes into the laptop in terms of plugs etc?

Scott, I installed an Amec Camino 101 AIS transponder from Milltechmarine.com. Doug Miller provides excellent support.

The unit has a 9 pin serial connection and includes a cable. I had to use a usb to serial adapter.

You wouldhave to get an MMSI number from the FCC.

Tim,

Out drifting around in no wind and moved the cursor over to Dimillo's. Carina shows up and it lists your MMSI # and a call sign.

Type: Vessel
Dim: ( 12m X 4m)

etc. etc... Looking good from over near Chebeague Island..
