AIS problem

We have a Raymarine C120 chartplotter with a Garmin 300 AIS receiver connected using NMEA 0183.

Everything has worked fine with all AIS tagets shown on the C120 untill today when some of the AIS targets showed up only periodically on the C120

The target closest to us (500 feet) was shown on the C120 for a minute or so and then disappeared.

Any ideas on what is wrong or tips on a fault finding strategy ?

Sounds like dirty or incomplete connections.

Are you using a VHF splitter?

The Garmin 300 has a built in splitter. The VHF antenna is wired into the Garmin AIS 300 and wired from the AIS to the VHF
