AIS NEMA Interface

I'm planning on adding an AIS transponder to my older RayMarine network. I currently have ST60 Instruments with a Smartpilot ST6002 Autopilot and two E system displays on a vintage Seatalk network. The instruments appear to be daisy chained to the seatalk input on the Autopilot computer. There is space available to connect a NEMA 0183 device to the Autopilot (which I guess acts as a switch and power source) or I have a unused NEMA 0183 connector at the back of the Master E Series MFD. If I purchase a NEMA 0183 capable AIS transponder, is the connection as simple as connecting the transponder to either of the NEMA 0183 inputs? I understand that I still need to connect an antenna via a VHF splitter.

You have to connect the AIS to the master E display. You will then have to configure the display to except NMEA183 at 38400 baud.

Marinetech is correct. The raymarine AP only interpret and retransmit a very limited range of NMEA sentences over seatalk. Plug it into the plotter.
