Sorry

Sorry my mistake not reading down the lines. Some fit the AC unit under the vee bert and some under the salon seats, what ever is easy to fit the unit and run the large 3" to 4" hose to vents through out the boat area to cool and heat. Nick

Starboard cockpit storage locker..

is where we put ours. It is positioned just forward of the fuel tank. Thru-hull goes directly out from the unit about a foot above the water line. Switches were installed under the companionway. Just behind the companionway steps in the engine tray are two ball valves controlling the water flow from the main seacock/water pump. This system directs the water either into the engine or into the HVAC unit. Primary air return is in the quarter berth divider and primary outlet is under the forward banquet seat facing into the saloon passageway. Multiple outlets were installed along the upper channel from the galley to the V-berth on starboard and the quarter berth to the v-berth on port.

A/C location

Our Mermaid A/C-heat is under the aft salon seat. Previous owner had it there too and when I replaced the unit after about 10 years, the holes were the same, making installation easy.

More info on the reverse cycle air?

I've been very interested in this topic for my H33_77-83. Does anyone have any numbers out there for about how much a system like this would be to install? Does the a/c system only run off of shore power or off of the boats power as well? Any links to recommended systems? thanks! --mike

Reverse cycle A/C

Mike You can estimate a minimum of $2000 for labor to install a 12k BTU unit plus parts and labor for duct work, plumbing and electric installation. If you are at all handy, it is a DIY project and well worth the cost savings if you have to skill and time. Something large enought for a 33 ft boat will draw close to 15 amps at 110VAC or 150-200 amps/hr through a 12VDC inverter so you can imagine the size battery bank required to run an A/C unit off boat power for any length of time is pretty huge.

A/C unit

I installed 16700 BTU unit in my hunter 30. The unit does an excellent job and have been well pleased. Mounted it in hanging closet because of the central location, ran 3 ducts out. 1 in V-Berth and 2 in main salon. Installation was very straight forward and you can install it yourself in 1 or 2 days " depending on breaks and interuptions ".

AC

Anything other than the AC being installed on the boat will not meet your requirments. DIY is not hard and you will find others always will to help. I installed one on a 29.5 for a friend of mine in under 10 hours and the unit cost about 2 grand. Go for it Ron

ac

I've been thinking about this for the past 3 years. got to do something, gets hot here in FL. I was sold on a Mermaid, but didn't want the cost and have to deal with maint issues. Ideally I wanted a unit that would cool, not concerned with heat. something after a few years I could toss and replace when it fails. In my boat behind the galley sink, I removed the splash board. theres a large open space that perfect for an ac unit. will slide in from the cockpit area. search on "low profile ac units". think its the solution I want, got to try it anyways. can get up to 16Kbtu which is the right size.
