My Yanmar 4JH2E does not have a foam element in the air filter housing, just a wire mesh with very large holes, about 1/4 dia. or more.Is it supposed to have a foam cover over the mesh? Thanks,Henry
The 4JH does not have the foam cover in the air inlet. The air inlet "filter" is a silencing muffler. A diesel sucks so much air that the inlet makes a lot of noise. The engine space on a sailboat is always clean enough that you don't need fine particle filtration. If you engine were powering a tractor, you would require better screenin, but the air cleaner would be huge.
