I am looking for an air conditioner for my Hunter 310. I am deciding how many BTU's are needed. Suggestions?

A/C BTU's

12000 btu's should be about right, you could maybe get away with a 10000 btu but might not be enough when real hot and humid, and that when you need it the most.Check with Hunter tech suport to be sure.

Formula.

You could call or write Mermaid Marine Air(Related Link). The BTU vs. interior space formula might be on their web-site. My 12K Mermaid on my H37C is more than adequate for Lake Erie. Takes it from 90+ to 80 in about fifteen minutes. Your boat probably has more interior space. We do not have the large aft cabin, just a quarterberth. We might wish we had gone with 16K when we go South.

Bigger is better

A 12,000 BTU unit would probably be OK but since your kind of on the borderline both in boat size and location, I'd consider the 16,000 btu size if you can swing it. The 16k would cool the boat, and you, down alot faster. We really appreciate the AC on Friday afternoons as we're opening up the boat for the weekend and right after we tie up after being out all day. I'm sure a 12K would get the job done but it's nice not to wait around. BTW- If you use ceramic space heaters in the early spring and fall definitly get the reverse cycle feature.

12000 should be enough

On my 340 I have a 12000 btu unit. It does an excellent job both cooling and heating my boat which is located on the Texas Gulf Coast.
