Thanks for the link Hermit.

Hermit, thanks for the link for the cupronickle heat exchanger supplier. I have often thought about doing this. I have the torch, brazing rods, vacuum pump and freon, and have done some work like this at the ametuer level. The reasons that stop me from moving forward are:
1. drilling the through-hull (because I have a water ballast boat and I'm not sure where the ballast tank ends)
2. what to do with the condensate (I have no bilge pump and not much of a bilge)
3. my boat really doesn't have enough storage locker space to begin with and it's hard to give some of that up permanently
4. for about $1200 you can buy a real unit and do it right (only half the fun though)
Still it is appealling to not have to lug a window unit and block the companion way so maybe it will get done. Thanks again.
