This applies to any boat having an air conditioner with salt water cooling. In cool waters this may not make any difference... However, in tropical waters the temperature is high and MANY more things want to grow in it. Because of this I must have the heat exchanger flushed every couple of years. Salt and dirt plate onto it and reduce its ability to cool. Consequently, the A/C will shut down with a High Pressure Fault (HPF).
The other area for trouble is the salt water filter. Small ones, typically builder installed, clog frequently due to things growing in the warm water; which causes the A/C unit to also get an HPF. I replaced the original filter with the GROCO ARG-750. That said, any large, easy to clean, filter will be acceptable. If the filter has a Stainless filter element, keep in mind the possibility of having to replace it frequently due do other boats introducing stray electric currents in the water and causing electrolysis.
At times, with the original filter, the element had to be replaced every few weeks. At other times it would last a year. Just depended on the boats near by. Some don't have their electrical systems well configured and grounded.
