A/C in a 35.5

Hi, A friend just completed this installation, he installed his unit under the sink. Ran the ducts to the port side and to the aft along the hull, under the stove, and behind cabinetry. followed the route to port and then foreward for the main cabin. He had to remove the bottom of the sink cabinet to fit, but the sink drains and water feed are connected as they were. The unit he installed is the 16,000 BTU Mermaid, with reverse cycle heat.I will be away until Tuesday but I will ask him if I can give you his telephone or e-mail address. My Email is kuderajp@v35.com

Legend AC

In my HL 35 circa 1989, the AC heat pump is installed in the stbd head under the sink. It fits there very nicely. I had to fabricate a new distribution plenium. Used a Home Depotas floor outlet head, fitted a wood blank to take the ducts and covered the whole thing with isullation foam to keep it from sweating. The distribution ducting I used was the plastic duct found in the woodworking magazines that is used for sawdust collection. The 3" duct works just great. The woodworking store had connectors, elbows, gates etc that worked great for the install. I ran two ducts fwd to the main salon with a pass through from one duct to the v berth. This v berth outlet has a flow gate as the need for the cool air in the v berth is not very often. The fwd ducts go under the seats. I have two release ducts in the main cabin at chest level as they exit up from the main ducts to and through the shelves with a 90 degree white pvc 3" elbow to direct the flow into the salon. The main salon is the main requirement as to the reason I have two outlets. I also ran a duct aft, through the lazaret into the aft cabin. The plastic duct is very tight and the availability of gates and elbows etc adds a high degree of ease to the assembly. Bob Dean s/v Sundance HL 35

Settee A/C Location

Several years back I installed a 16000 BTU unit that was special built for me by Artic Marine of Clearwater Fla. It is located in the Starboard settee and feeds both the v-berth, main cabin and the aft cabin. If you would like to pursue this contact me at jfrushing@worldnet.att.net.

MarineAir

My 35.5 has a MarineAir split system. The compressor and pump are installed under the vberth. There is a 12k btu air handler in the forward hanging locker and another 6k btu air handler in the aft cabin hanging locker. The reason for two air handlers is that the previous owner didn't listen to the vendor that running ductwork from the vberth to the aft cabin wouldn't be adequate. System works great, is very reliable and keeps boat cool but the downside is I lost both hanging lockers.
