I have a 1998 376 with the factory installed marine air 16,000 btu air unit. It is way to loud. It is mounted under the starboard settee. Does anyone have any ideas how to shut it up. I can even hear it on the dock with all hatches closed and the wind blowing. Please Help quiet my boat. Thanks, Miles Pincus Las Brisas 1998 hunter 376

Most definitely it sounds like there is a problem with your system. Has it done this since new or is this something recent? Is it the pump making noise or the compressor? Maybe shock mounts are bad and it is vibrating against the frame. I guess I would call Marineair and talk to them. I am in the process of getting ready to order an air conditioning system for my 340. I would like to hear your results. I wish I had ordered one with my boat but will be installing it myself. A friend has a 16,000 BTU Marineair in his 340 and it is quiet You can contact Marineair at; www.marineair.com Marine Air Systems 2000 North Andrews Avenue Extension Pompano Beach, Florida 33069-1497 Tel: 954-973-2477 Fax: 954-979-4414 Service Fax: 954-973-8795

Noisy pumps

Our boat came with air-cooled water pumps for the A/C and fridge, and the whine of their cooling fans was driving me nuts. I replaced them with Cal Pumps, which are internally oil cooled, I think, and I need to check them now and then to be sure they are working! As far as the A/C compressor it self, I agree with the last post about checking with MarineAir. Normally they can be heard running, but nothing like you describe.
