I'm looking into installing AC on my 2004 Hunter 33. Does anyone have a recommendation on a unit? I've read that 16k BTU would be the right size, and the manual shows the routes for ducting and where to place the unit. Just looking for the right unit. Thank you

Dometic turbo 16000 btu AC with optional sound cover.......that is what I plan to install on my Hunter 46 once I install a thru hull for the raw water intake.

Our 1991 boat came with reverse cycle MarineAir units, 16K BTU main cabin and 9K BTU aft cabin. Both still original units and we use them for warm air only during the winter months while in her slip; no need for them during the summer. Since we purchased her the only service was two years ago when the aft cabin unit needed a recharge of R-22. One through hull with sea strainer and Little Giant sea water pump serves both very quiet units. The tech that serviced the aft cabin unit checked out both and gave them a clean bill of health.

Does anyone have pictures of an AC install on a 1996 Hunter 336? I have decided on a Mermaid 16,000 BTU unit but I'm not sure if I should get the side or top discharge unit! Also, I'd like to see where the hole is for the return? I believe the unit will fit nicely aft of the 80 gallon water tank! I would really appreciate someone taking a few moments to reply!

Inlet at the bottom and outlet at the top since the raw water will heat up and expand while pumped through the unit. Installation guide attached for your reference. Do you have a dedicated raw water thru-hull fitting with operable ball valve?

Thank you sir! I was planning on using the thru-hull for the engine since I will only operate the AC while at the dock, but I may have to rethink that decision. I also believe I will have to look at a few installations to make sure I install the return correctly.

Using the engine raw water intake thruhull might be acceptable but check diameter acceptability for short term until next haulout during which time you can install a dedicated thruhull. Install valves to isolate the AC inlet. Outlet should thruhull above the waterline is not a big deal.

Separate inlet needed. Has Mermaid sold any units for the 33. Do you have the owners manual with the information.

Contact forum as you may have to pay for advice. You will be talking with one of two people who were former Hunter employees who will know and they should have the build list of parts to include ac unit. It is worth it to pay but you will get the scoop

The 33 is one missed under boat info

At the top of this site under hunter owners is a thread by Phil herring with a reference to other Hunter information. Click on it and scroll down to manuals and then to 33 for the manual on your boat

I’m wondering here about using the engine raw water intake. seems like a potential big problem. Not to mention what about running the engine at the dock with ac on. However, wouldn’t using the engine intake possibly cause the AC raw water pump to suck water and then air backwards through the engine cooling system resulting in a stalled pump. Just speculating.
