Hi All,

I have a Hunter 33, year model 2008, hardly use the air condition more than 10 times since new. Last week when I switch it on the air condition to run it, after 3 minutes of running, there was a burnt smell and I quickly switch it off. The burnt smell was coming from the Magnetic drive water pump. Please advice what causes the motor to burnt out. Always check out the running raw water before continuing to run the air condition. Where can I buy a replacement and your advice on this matter is much appreciated. Sonny

in my case it was the impellor -- mine burnt out when I forgot to open the seacock and it ran dry before I realized and shut it off :--(

Hard to say the cause of this one, Sonny.. Some of those pumps have a cooling coil in them that uses a little water that it is pumping to cool the coils.. if the pump is not operated a lot, the cooling coil can become plugged with slime and the coils will burn.. If the raw water strainer plugs, that can burn the coil. The most common way that these fail is to have something jam the impeller and stop it while the motor continues to run. Could be slime or a shell or sand.. The spinning drive magnet spinning over the stopped pump magnet makes a LOT of heat and can fry the pump case.. Pictures?? What size AC unit is it? Here is a place to look at new pumps if that is necessary:

Check your pump’s voltage.. You may be different from the 115 volts that is standard here in the states.. Generally, these are not hard to disassemble and figure out what happened .. Good luck..

If it is the OEM pump, it is probably made by Cal which, in my opinion, is not of high quality. It's impossible to say why it went south as there could be any number of reasons. You would be better served replacing it with a March pump sized for your A/C which is easy to do - all their A/C pumps are rated according to the BTU capacity of the A/C.

Air condition magnetic water pump motor "Burnt Out"

Hi All,

Sorry I did not mentioned the model number is: 3-MD-SC, 230 volts at 50 Hertz and it is made by "Little Giant". Would appreciate your thoughts to source the replacement. Sonny
