Gulfstar 37 North East River, Chesapeake Bay
My yard set her back in the water on Thursday (Earth Day? Water Day!)
Got there Friday and motored out to the middle of the river and sat dead still for the sunset hour. Only 2 fishing skiffs and another sailboat passed by the entire time. That's not likely to happen again until October!
For some reason they put me at the other end of the mooring field this year and as the evening progressed I checked depth. It zeroed about 2 hours before low tide. Thank goodness there was no traffic and we sat in the mud for half the night. Saturday morning I got involved climbing the mast to set a new windex standoff and re run the headsail halyards and by the time that was done, the tide was halfway out again and the mud had a hold on us again. Needless to say I've requested a different location... After cleaning tree pollen form the yard and installing a much needed pair of bow chocks I could move out to squat on another mooring ball.
The upshot was no actual sailing on the first weekend in, but it still felt great to be on the water.
