I did my due diligence and searched this site and the web for pictures of a sure-fire method of getting the swing keel off from a trailered boat. Has anyone done this and is able to post some pix?

Hi

Had my keel down a few times. Did it on a gravel driveway. Wish I had a hard surface to work on so I could take it out thru the winter for a serious fairing.

Check the attached photo. Simple setup. To put it back up use some threaded rod in the bolt holes to line it up when raising the keel back into position.

Hope this helps.

Two good sources of info. Thanks. Both mentioned the tip about threaded rod in the mount holes. I would not have thought of that. I assume Mormandeus, that you rolled your trailer out from under the boat after it was on blocks?

I got a kick out of Captnkev's comment that the C25 keel procedure ought to be about the same. Yes, it is, except for the extra 1000 pounds of keel you 25 guys handle! Y'all gotta be manly!

Swing Keel Removal Dolly

I just put my keel back in the boat after doing a new bottom. Here is a picture of the dolly I used. I copied an idea I saw on one of the Catalina 22 fleet websites, but I cant seem to find the link. It works great. The 2x4 directly under the keel pivots on a long 3/8 bolt that is hard to see in the photo.

Did all the work under the boat with the trailer still there. Had her up about two feet off the trailer but the stands I made were to narrow to pull the trailer out ( plan ahead...not).

I guess I misunderstood the part about removing the keel while the boat is still on the trailer. The way my trailer is setup, I don't think I could do it.
