AH 4000 remote

When my remote is hooked up to my unit the auto pilot will sometimes just stop working. If I unplug the remote and press auto it starts up again. I suspect that this is a somewhere in the wire. Can this unit be repaired or do I just put a new ST4000 higher on my Christmas list? Hayden Watson S/V Papillon 1988 C30 tr/bs Spokane, WA

My AH 4000 behaved the same way. Plug the remote in and it would not respond to key pad entries (auto or standby). There was no telltail beep when pushing the buttons. The problem was a broken wire right where the cable enters the connector on the remote cable. I took it apart and soldered it. Good as new, except with the solder, the wire is stiffer and it breaks again easily. You have to make sure that it routes in a large radius or the wires fatigue quickly and break.
