ok here is the question .....what kind of after shave do you use......i know this is not about sailing but 'Old Spice' claims to be the sailors choice and i was wondering if there is any truth to that .....i will admit i do like the stuff...but i also like others too...but would have no issues about wareing it...so come on and dont be shy tell us what you use.....:)

regards

Shave? What's that? Retired, can't afford razors anymore. Also a few here can't shave, need the hair for comb over (beard, back, etc.)

just soap please............ a heavy hand just ruins it and the smell of a clean man is so good. Now old spice deodorant is very nice mixed with a clean soap guy!

I won't argue about old spice I will note that Mitchum states that their deodorant (not shave cream I know) is for some one that is not afraid to use a harpoon...another sailing reference to consider!

Old Spice deodorant comes in handy to cover up the crew stench, and if I were to use after shave my preference would be Old Spice. So there..at least one!

Laughing.. Phil .. That is what it seems to go to after a few days !!
Here where the 50 pound mosquitoes roam, any scent like that will invite them for dinner..

I have a whole shaving routine that I learned here.

If it's worth doing right, it's worth doing it like Maine Sail.

Steps:
#1-Clean the hull with an acid base cleaner like FSR, oxalic acid or On & Off to remove rust & tannin staining.
#2-Wet Sand by hand 600 (if real bad) then move up the grits to P1000+ (only if severely oxidized other wise you can start at #3)
#3-3M Marine Rubbing Compound or Presta Gel Coat Compound (use a wool 3M super buff COMPOUND grade pad like the #05711)
#4-3M Finesse It or Presta Ultra Cutting Creme (Use a foam 3M #05725 pad or 3M Yellow Wool # 05713)
#5-(OPTIONAL STEP) Presta Chroma - Use 3M #05725 pad or #05713 or Blue Presta wool pad)
#6-Collinite #885 Fleet Wax Paste Version- or 3M Performance Paste Wax. For a polymer coating I like AwlCare or Nu-Finish
I find this is enough to keep my hull clean for the season, unfortunately I keep having to go to the emergency room for severe bleeding and infections every time I do it. ;)

You didn't ask for a lady's opinion but I've never let that stop me in the past, so here goes. I prefer my man to be sans after shave. A little scent in the deodorant is fine, but too much scent on a guy (or anyone) is a turn-off. Furthermore, it makes me sneeze, makes my eyes water, and sometimes makes me nauseous. Some scents do indeed invite biting insects.

Of course, the above might just be a knee-jerk reaction to my 50-minute ride this morning in the commuter vanpool amid a thick fog of ladies perfume. But seriously, I've never understood some people's desire to smell like anything but a clean human being.
