Yes and no

May not need a traveler on a 216, but spinnaker is easy. Simply swap out the jib halyard for the spin. Or if the jib is roller furling, look for a lead on the mast that has a string feeder for a future spin halyard.

H-216 Spinnaker/Traveler Add-ons

The spinnaker kit is available from Hunter (or a Hunter Dealer). It is easy to install and has good instructions. You will need a tube of Sikaflex. My dealer, Nelson Marine in Alameda, was too incompetent to install so I had to finish the install myself. They did not install any of the mast fittings, only installed one of the blocks on each side (without the stand-up spring) plus they installed the block on the rail instead of the combing like the instructions said, and they did not Sikaflex the hardware like the instructions said. I, and most 216 owners, think the traveler is ugly and it most definitely impedes cockpit movement. I decided to go without it. Note the cockpit sole mount of the mainsheet somewhat negates the necessity of the traveler. Mr. Ernie has rigged a rope traveler you can look up in the 216 archives.
