Well, I had my hand surgery on Wed. It took a while but the Dr. said all went well. I was told that it will take 6 months to a year to regain use of my hand! I will only get up 50% feeling in my thumb though. The nerves and tendons have been repaired and I have 17 stitches on my hand and I think 8 stitches inside the hand. I am all bandaged up and can't use my left hand at all. I guess I should consider myself lucky as it could have been worse. I will be off from work for a while to give my hand a chance to heel.So I am going to go nuts with all the free time and not being able to work on by boat or anything else for that matter. Time to catch up on all of my reading!!! Just thought I'd bring everybody up to date with what is going on with me. Again, thanks everbody for your support. Steve, s/v NOETA (P323)

...terrible luck. I had a similar incident 2 years ago when I was down the boat yard working alone. A ladder slipped out from under me and I fell on the stern of the boat. I broke a rib, but could get home. Now I always take the phone with me everywhere.

Utility Knives
I see all kinds of injuries in the workplace with these items. Since they are razor blades the injuries are always severe. One of the things we require people to wear for personal protection is kevlar gloves. These resist cuts from the knives. Also you should always cut in a direction away from your self. I also wish you a speedy recovery!! For everyone else as they say on hill street blues, be careful out there. Dave

Steve: Gook luck with your recovery. Once the surgery has healed be sure to find a GOOD physical therapist to speed up your total recovery. They can work wonders if you find the right one. Probably lots of vitamin e is probably in store for the healing process too. This is what my sisters doctor had her take before and after the surgery both.

Steve, I'm glad your surgery went well. I hope you have a great recovery! I mentioned on your first thread that I'd had micro surgery on the nerves in one finger on my left hand. I've also had serious nerve damage to the thumb and two other fingers on the same hand. My point is that even with degrees of numbness from 40-75% on these four fingers, that left hand works just fine! It just takes time. I really do hope that your recovery goes well and that this "bonus time" gives you opportunities to put it to good use! Take care, Dick Vance H-25.5 Honey Bear"

Every since I read your first posting about your accident, I have had the heeby jeebys. I work with my hands for a living and can't imagine what I would do if that had happened to me!
