Have any of you 29.5 owners tried to move weight forward to reduce the drag on the stern of the 29.5? And if so, did you move the batteries?

My 25.5 goes faster if the stern is not squatting.

...just wanted to let you know. If we have more than two or three people in the cockpit it increases speed to have one or two move forward.

29.5

Andy. We have found our 1994 H29.5 sits much lower in the stern than other Hunters. In fact the stern rub rail is coated with bottom paint to keep it clean. That's how low it sits. We haven't found any way to raise it. By moving weight etc. When it is in cruise, it tends to ride a little higher, but at rest she sits low. We have tried everything, and she just likes to sit on her heels. We haven't found that it has limited any of our sailing. We get 5.5 knots under normal power, and have seen in the 6.3 to 6.6 range under sail in a good breeze! Let us know if you find any other info. bryfly@hotmail.com Our hunter dealer has never been able to explain why she sits so low.

Keep your water tank full

If your 29.5 is like my 28.5, then the water tank is in the bow. Keep it full. It will help a little, though I'm sure it won't cure.

Same Situation

I thought it was just me, but I have noticed the same thing on my 29.5. Even when you look at pics in the archives, you can see that it kind of sits on its bum. I do know that, possibly it could be the 20 gallon holding tank (which is usually pretty full), or the fact that the stern lazerette tends to fill with water (although I always pump it out after rain). Not a big deal to me, but, yes, I have noticed it too...

Squatters

I had a 1995 29.5 before I got the 336 and here are the things I did. Keep the holding tank as empty as you can and the fresh water tank full.and load the boat as far forward with stuff as I can. I also moved one battery to the port side to help with it's tendency to lean to starboard. With a wing keel it's important to keep the boat level because if you are squatting, the wing is plowing water, and if it's bow heavy, it's trying to pull the boat down bow first. Flat and level, the wing will work as advetised, unless your over-powered and heeling too much. Hope this helps. Ken
