I have a 1977 with a traveler mounted aft in the cockpit. On the traveler there are two "stops" that require me to pull up on a pin and physically slide them to move the boom for trim. There are no traveler cars and no mechanical advantage, just pure push and pull. It is scary (boom is out of control during the process), and difficult at times. Other than moving the traveler to the cabin top which is not what I want to do, is there any hardware that would improve this set up with the taveler in place?

What you want to do is a "good thing" and the hardware to do it right should not be hard to put together from a site like the Harken one. You can check the chandlery on this site for the parts after you figure out what you want.

Try Harken Compuspec. It will help you to select a new traveler rail, car, blocks and cleats to convert it to a unit that you can adjust with lines. Their website will allow you to enter stuff like racing or cruising application, then give you Harken part numbers for the job.

You may be able to modify one of these. Call Garhauer. They know Catalina's and can probably put something together for you.
