Aft Cabin Water Leak

We occassionally get a small water leak in the back of the aft cabin, starboard side. The leak is at the aft bulkhead that separates the holding tank in the stern. It does not occur all the time and only when we are under way (never while just at the slip). Any ideas where this could be coming from or ways to trace the source? It is not holding tank water or seawater. Thanks.

Thru-hull leak.

Could be the thru hull connection to the engine exhaust or, the exhaust hose itself.

Same Leak

I had same kind of leak under power only under power and it was rub rail joint. It really was from the deck to hull joint seam where they bolt the upper to the lower and sealant was missed about an inch. try taking the bulkhead off and while motoring you should be able to see where it is leaking. The bad news is they had to take the boat out of the water and remove that section of rub rail get new sealant in that spot and reseal the joint. Mine was done within the first year under warranty. But try removing the bulkhead first this way you get to check what is leaking, maybe its a screw from something else and just needs sealant. Nick

leak

I have had similar leak now for past few years. I removed bulk head and while under power with flash light in hand recognized leak coming thru rub rail which goes below water line when under power. Got a 4' broom pole with a foam brush attached and some sealant caulking and have applied on crack (gooped it up. Two person job. Will remove rub rail on outside at end of season when I am on the hard.

306/290 leak

Vic, We have a 306 (basically the same boat) purchased in Fall 2004. We had a leak in the aft cabin which the dealer finally fixed after several tries. The leak dripped on to the top of the fiberglass head liner in the aft cabin, and you would see it where the head liner meets the aft bulkhead (there's a depression molded into the head liner there, sort of like a hand-grip). It turned out to come from the place where the wires from various instruments pass from the cabin interior up into the steering pedestal. There is a channel molded into the deck, which is where the water drains from the cockpit: it's covered up by a panel which you're standing on when you steer. When water gets into this large channel from rain or washing the boat, it will run down the wiring and into the cabin on top of the headliner, before dripping next to the bulkhead onto the mattress. This is all from what the technician told us, and from what we can observe from looking at it from the cabin and the cockpit: I never observed it directly, but he definitely fixed the leak. I would assume you need to remove the panel in the cockpit just aft of the pedestal, and then you should be able to caulk the hole. I don't believe this is hard to do: good luck. Jay
