All things wind related are my downfall. KAP(kite assisted photography) isn’t a new concept but I was intrigued by a post last month of an onboard aerial photo shoot and found everything I needed to rig a small camera to a kite lying around the shop and the rest is history. The main ingredients are a fairly large stable kite, strong line, gloves, a simple camera with a time lapse setting or some old RC eqt to remotely trigger a shutter. Launched the kite from the cockpit up to about 100’, tied off to a cleat and attached the camera rig to the line and then continue paying out line. It was easier than it sounds and before I knew there were a dozen people pretty amazed at how great the shots were for such a basic thought. The kite stows in a bag the size of a nerf football and I just haul the line into a small bucket in the cockpit when I retrieve it.
