Hi all

Once again looking for same sage advise from those of you who have had some experience or knowledge of pilot boats. I am considering a Newport
Gulf 27' pilot sailer. Looks well kept, clean and well outfitted. Do these boats
sail as well as conventional sailboat of the same size? Any downsides? Advantages? Please weigh in if you have any opinions. Thanks a lot.

Nice Boat

The Gulf 32 was a pretty good money maker for Capital Yachts. They later took their 41 and added a pilot house and then the 28. These are both modern underbodies compared to the 32 which is a full keel, altho I think you could have special ordered them with a long(ish) keel too. Anyway, there are darn few of them, so you want a good survey and all the usual stuff about boats of this vintage applies. I would guess ot has: more windage, a little higher center of gravity and a little less light air performance compared to the stock Newport 28. More light, more comfort.
