Tartan 34c Noank CT
Hello! We are relocating from CT to CA and looking to ship our Tartan 34c. She has been carefully restored over the years, so we are looking for an experienced, reliable, and trustworthy hauler. (I recognize it will be an expensive move!) Grateful for any advice!

PS - also, we will be in SF; excited for sailing in the bay and welcome any tips / advice (marina for docking, SF sailing tips, etc).

You have several modes available. Over the road.. Club mate did this from San Diego to Maine... In Massachuttes the hauler his an overpass.... Rail....if still available, security is the issue. Marine transport. Another club mate had there boat loaded onto a ship that specializes in relocation a good option. Hire a captain and transit the Panama Canal, OR go thru the canal your self.

If you decide to go over the road, search out a west coast boat builder that might be transporting east. they don't like to dead head back ( without a load) and deals can be negotiated

I recommend just a quick sail through the NorthWest Passage!

Seriously, though… I have a cradle up in that area. Maybe you could put your boat on my cradle and truck it out to the bay area, and when I eventually get out there, I could reclaim my cradle.

I had a set a date last fall for Sailors Moving Sailors to move me out east this month. In January he cancelled my move based on insurance increases. I see on his site he has the week we had planned booked. Brownell's would be a great option but when I called they mentioned they primarily work the East coast and don't drive out to the midwest.

Why not just get one of us to sail it from there to wherever?

I’m confused, though: in February you wrote that you were moving Connecticut to California; now you’re moving “out east”?! ‍♂

if your boat is on a cradle it can be flat - bed shipped on a trailer . I had good experiences with over the road boat -in cradle- on-trailer shipments both by Lockport Marine in Lockport NY and by the big yacht yard in Stamford CT. to get an idea of what a trailer of your boat over the road may cost, put up a 'request for bid' on the hauler board, UShip.com . haulers will send you a written no-obligation quote and if you are lucky you can find a dead head hauler at a good price who wants to move your boat west at some time in the future. over the road beam is limited to 8'4 boat beam in some states and the trailer + boat height also has to fall within each states' load limits . ( it is a mess to figure these things out. )
