Great boat, I love it

Hi Bob, I bought my 1979 O'day 30 in January '07, so far i love it. Stable, solid, forgiving and plenty of space for short cruises. I sailed out of Liberty Harbor NJ for a season and moved to Scotland, liked the boat so much i took it with me. Totally different environment to sail in over her, always strong steady winds and lots of offshore swell. The boat just sails through it all, as fast with a single reef in the main and a partly furled jib, as it is with full sails. You may be able to tell from my reply that I'm a novice sailor, so my reply isn't very technical. I'm still discovering the joys of sailing, and probably overlook faults that others may see. I've always sailed single handed and with the O'day 30 I've always felt safe. I'm 6'3" and I've slept in all of the berths quite comfortably. As with all old boats there's lots of small projects I'd like to do, but the only one I feel needs attention is finding a decent place to locate the batteries. Mine are under the quarter berth next to the raw water seacock, and i can't think of anywhere else to move them to. I bought a full review of the O'Day 30 before I bought mine, I can email you a copy if want to read it Hope you are rewarded with as much fun as I've had Regards Greg

302 is a good boat

Moved up from an O'Day 240 about 3-4 years ago. I love the O'DAY 302. Roomy inside, seems to be well built, now major problems on a 20 year old boat. Based on owning two of 'em, I think O'Day made a good boat that wears well with age. Good luck.

greg,

Thank's for the opinion. My 272 sails as well as yours with a reef and a shortened genoa.
