I need to find a way to gain easy access to the space below the V-berth. I followed the recommendation from the first posting on this topic (Thanks!) and bought a sheet of marine plywood and duplicated the original access hatch which is shown in the first picture below.
What I need advice on is this: With the access hatch cut fore-and-aft at the 60%/40% point, each piece would tend to fall into the void below. So I will install two thawtships braces. To give perspective, the distance between the existing fore-and-and braces is 27.5". OK, what would be the best way to install these new braces? The easiest would be to drill through the sides of the existing braces, but I'm worried drilling into the edge of the new braces may make the plywood fail. A few 90 degree brackets should work; what type?
Any thoughts?
