During the course of putting 300+ manhours into my boat getting her ready for the 2nd half of the sailing season, I forgot to remove the masking tape from my plastic depth transducer after painting the bottom. The masking tape has left adhesive on the transducer. How can I remove the adhesive without damaging the plastic? I don't want to use a solvent that will attack the plastic.

Real Easy

Use paint thinner or mineral spirits. In fact, I use it to remove ANY residue left by anything. Just this week, I removed the gummy residue on my hull from a fender that has spent too much time in the sun (In a flash). And I've used it on duct tape and masking tape residues many times. As always, try it in an inconspicuous place (such as inside a cockpit locker), first.

Don't laugh

Sounds like a trick but I rub a small dab of peanut butter on any resdiual gummy surface and it works like a charm. No damage anywhere. Just don't use the chunky style.

Chuck, It is the oil. GoJo handcleaner

does the same thing with some mineral spirits and a little soap. That also removes label adhesive residue.

Goof Off

Goof off or Ronson lighter fluid work great for removing sticker residue. Used to use it to remove sticky stuff off expensive Lucite and acrylic stuff in a gift shop.
