I am looking for a recommendation for upgrading my sailboat. Currently I am strictly a day sailer on inland waters in the Midwest and have a Compac 16 which has been a great starter boat and it has many advantages. It handles heavy winds very well, is very forgiving, easy to sail alone, fits in my garage and I can trailer it with my V6 car, has a fixed keel with 18 inch draft, and with trailer and motor cost me less than 2K.On the down side it does not sail up wind very well, is a slow boat, and I would like more space. What I am looking for:A faster boat but racing is not an interestA boat that can hold 4 people with more comfort.A boat that can sail up wind.A boat I can still sail alone and is generally easy to sail.I do not need a cabin for overnight stays or cooking I am strictly a day sailer. A boat that will fit in my garage. I am thinking 19-25 feet.A boat that I can trailer with my existing V6 car. My current boat displaces around 1100lbs and has a 450 ballast. I don’t want to go much heavier than this. I have seen some boats that use water for ballast and can be drained for trailering. This sounds interesting.I am looking to purchase used and spend under $4500.Any suggestions?
