I have installed a new Cold Machine in my -96 P42 and would like to use a flat evaporator from Waeco instead of the "box" type from A/B to save room in the refrig. Has anyone mixed the two in this way? Are the connections the same? Am I missing something? Ideas? Suggestions? Thanks MG

Aren't they the same?

If you look at Pyacht & defender they are both in the same. Depending on which compressor you have you'll need the matching evaporator, they're at least 3 or 4 different ones for each compressor size/type. If I recall (you can verify from the websites) there are the 50 & 80 & 90 series, the cold machine and super cold machine. Each series has a good selection of flat evaporators. Check the link below, if you do have the cold machine under products click on "Adler / Barbour Series". Hope this helps

Mix n' Max no go!

Mike, Mixing and matching parts from one manufacturer to another is asking for trouble in my opinion. Manufacturer's build their equipment and test it extensively to insure performance. At best, you are rolling the dice. Even if you got a cracker jack expert, you might just get an answer after the fact that they are incompatible. On a boat, a relatively minor efficiency loss can have a performance impact not to mention the ripple effect of battery capacity, etc, etc. Stick with the choices provided by the manufacturer. If that doesn't suit your application then contact A/B for a practical solution. If they review the specs of the evaporator you want to buy and approve it, then go for it. If not though, I would definitely recommend staying away from it. Good luck, Mike D

Thanks

Thanks for the responses. I've decided to get a custom built evaporator from A/B. Seems like the best/smartest thing to do here. MG
