Adler Barbour not cycling

I have an older Adler Barbour 'fridge on my C36. Last year I noticed it no longer cycled on and off, just stayed on constantly; even when I turned the knob all the way one direction or the other, it stayed on. I got a new thermostat last year, and it's the same thing. However, I may have gotten the wrong one; this one has a gray plastic knob, the previous was white.

It still gets very cold, makes ice, etc. But it's killing my batteries! Please, and insight is very welcome.

Did you recharge it? If you add too much refrigerant it can cause those symptoms

No, thanks, haven't recharged it. Never felt then need.

check your contacts as mine did the same thing. I cleaned all the contacts and it fixed the problem.

Thanks for your reply. Which contacts are you referring to, please? There are terminals on the thermostat, then the t-stat wires on the compressor unit, and power terminals on the unit. Thanks, jv

Mine won't run on low voltage, it shuts off. My problem is that it runs always, so I think the t-stat may be faulty, or the wrong one.

The contacts I cleaned were the power at the unit and breaker panel at the same time I made sure that I had good contact. If you have a long power run you may have line loss that will reduce the amount of power to the unit. To solve this change out both pos/neg lines with a larger gauge wire or make sure its 10 marine not 10 auto.

I have had sticking thermostats for many years. It seems like if it works, it works well. But if it sticks, it is hard to find a set point that it will cycle normally. I have thought about converting to an electronic thermostat but haven't yet. I don't know what it is about these thermostats but I consider them to be unreliable. However in my case if I turned the setting to "1" which is warmest, and smack the thermostat housing it will always shut off. Sometimes it takes several whacks. This shouldn't be this way. Regarding the correct thermostat- there are two versions- one for refrigerators and the other for freezers. Check that you have the correct one for your application. They have different cut-in and cutout points to control the temperature of the evaporator.

Rich I installed a digital Temperature Controller Temp Sensor Thermostat Control STC-1000 RS
as I too had problems with the old controller not knowing what it was doing or what the temp was set at. With this unit I set the temp and can change the set point as required too keep the beer at just the right temp.

I bought one of these a week ago but mistakenly ordered the 110V version. I imagine you got the 12V version? It is powered by 12VDC and provides a relay closure output?
