My 20-year old refrigerator's Adler Barbour compressor unit finally developed a PC board irreparable failure. Am looking for either a replacement electronic module or an entire used compressor unit, (new ones are pretty pricey!) Any help out there?

I heard about this company after I paid $300 for a new one supposedly they can fix the old ones but i don't know for sure. Let me know how it goes.

The control module on our AB cold plate...

died a couple of years ago. I was told then that it could be repaired. I gave up after running into several local and national dead ends. AB sold me a new module for $250 as I recall. Plug and play. Terry

It is probably a 25 cent part

but the manufacturer won't give out a schematic so you can troubleshoot it. Autohelm does the same thing. It protects a service and parts market and runs up your cost to repair. The guy in Florida just knows which IC to replace and gets a hundred bucks for a five minute job replacing a 25 cent part. Ask him which one it is and see what he says. I've got three of these modules and they all have the same problem. I'll publish it here if I ever find out which one is failing.

repair or replace

i had mine rebuit by miller marine out of jacksonville fl a few years back for about $100. they replaced one of the diodes that A/B had placed a special # on so you couldn't do it yourself. the guy at miller i guess broke the code... the repaired module lasted 2 1/2 years before it broke down again so i bit the bullit and went to defender and got the A/B replacement for $210 +/-. it's a plug and play and works fine ....new design that looks to be up to date not like the old design...I am going to list the old module i have on ebay and maybe somebody out there with the same problem will buy it from me and fix their own...FWIW

New A/B unit does not work

I just installed a new A/B unit yesterday on my boat and it's got a problem from the factory, I called and they told me to put guages on it and call them back, well the boats only two hours away, so I'm going down tommorrow night 4 hours drive time. $38 in fuel. I guess once I put the guage on it I'll try and trouble shoot it myself. I really don't want to undo the unit because I'll loose the 134a and need to install a vacuum pump on it. It does have a self diagnostic system on it. It gives out the trouble code #3 pressure too high, I let some pressure out yesterday just to see. Still the same problem just runs a few seconds longer. Has anyone had any problem with the connections not piercing into the other lines for refrigerant flow? Tim Welsh H34 S/V Cabo Wabo

Tim, I've found WAECO not the best

firm to deal with. I had a A/B unit in my boat and had a problem with the spillover fan from the freezer to the fridge. It was under warranty and I was in Miami on my way to the Bahamas. Called WAECO, very poor response, they finally dug up two dealers in Miami. Called them, not interested in service calls. Earliest date I got from them was two weeks. Just try to contact WAECO by email and you'll see what I mean. Unfortunately the unit came with the new boat. I would not buy an A/B unit if I could help it.

Try this

Try www.rparts.com , can probably purchase newer style compressors ,( more efficient ), along with the newer control units,( older style not compatable ),for about the same as the older control unit alone. They also have a good forum with alot of good advise for system design.
