Has anyone added an adjustable motor mount to a 240. We have a 2002 240 and are contemplating adding the mount. Frankly, the process for getting our Honda 8 hp in and out seems to be the sort of activity designed by a chiropractor who needs work.

Try this

If you have a bimini, throw a line over it and use its steel rails as leverage. Wind the line in reverse around a winch so that it will "click" down as you lower off the back from the motor mount. Reverse to raise. Besides making it easier to deploy, it's a great safety device to ensure the OB won't fall in the drink should you slip or drop the thing.

Adjustable Motor Bracket

I have a mount that makes it very easy to lift the motor up and down. West Marine calls them "adjustable outboard brackets" and they can be found on their website using those words for a search. Prices ranges from $125-$250. The guy I bought my boat from got this unit at the place he bought the motor (1999 Yamaha 15 hp 4 stroke). The process of raising/lowering the motor is so simple. I must admit having a walk through transom helps, but however you're doing it now this device will ultimately save you money, but hurt the chiroprators in your area as your sore back will be gone. Good luck, let us know what you end up doing.

outboard brackets

The outboard brackets work well. I'm worried about towing the boat with the motor attached to the bracket. Glen has a 15 hp 4 stroke which must weigh a lot more than my 6hp short shaft 2 stroke. Want to upgrade to a 8hp long shaft. Is towing with this weight on the transom bracket a problem? Advice would be appreciated. (Help Crazy Dave from another Dave a long way away)

Keep the weight off the stern

When towing your boat and trailer you want to keep as much weight off the stern as possible. My 260 tows great with my 9.9 Merc 4-stroke in the back of my SUV. When I leave the motor on the stern. the trailer fish tails very badly above 50 mph. Also any bump in the road will cause a whip lash at the end of the boat and even a little looseness can result in your motor doing a high dive off the mount. Brigg
