My 1988 H35 is fitted with a pair of triple Rutgerson rope clutches. I want add another one to handle a spinnaker halyard. With some clutches, an extra unit can be added by side bolted onto the existing clutch bank. Is this likely to be a solution for me? Drilling through the fiberglass and finding and tapping into a backing plate is a daunting prospect. Where would I find an older style Rutgerson single unit that would match?

about this. Clearly, you should properly bolt new clutches to the backing plate, but you will have to drill accuratly, and have or borrow a tap set. Hunter indicated to me that there is a aluminum backing plate, and it should be large enough to allow additonal clutches to be added. I have an 87 Legend 35 (same as yours?), and there's no convenient access from the underside or at least not on both sides. I'm planning to adding a number of clutches to my boat this spring, but I have the Easylock clutches, and they're no longer manufactured. They're crappy anyway. Chris
