Has anyone installed an additional fuel tank on a 2005 41ft? If so (and it went well) would you provide me with the make and model of the tank, how you ran the fuel lines and filler hose and where you placed the tank. Any other comments would be appreciated.

Additional Tank

Are you looking to add a 2nd or 3rd tank? I have a tri-cabin Hunter 41 that has two tanks installed from the factory.

Jack,

I assume that your desire to add additional fuel storage to your 41 is for extended cruising .... Rather than going to the expense and trouble of installing additional tankage in the boat you might want to consider increasing tankage by either 1 . using a "Nauta/Imtra" flexable fuel bladder. Secure it on deck and gravity feed the fuel to your deck fill. Fold it up and store away when not needed. See West Marine catalog... they come in various sizes. or 2. use 2-4 , 5 or 6 gal Jerry cans. Many cruiser use the jerry can option to carry an additional 10-20 gals... Personally I have used both on my 420... the jerry can option is simpler and quicker...there are few places that you will go that you cannot get to a fuel dock with the range added by an additional 20+ gals; but if you are going to sit at anchorage in some remote location, the bladder option works well...

Tank may be bigger than you think

I have a 41 commissioned in January of this year. With the fuel gauge reading at 5/8ths, the tank took 30 gallons. My first thought was a bad gauge but then I looked at the manufacturer's plate on the tank and found that it is actually 50 US gallons (189 liters). All the literature, including the specs on the current Hunter website show the 41 with a 36 gallon fuel tank.

2005 41 fuel tank

I have the new 41 DS 2005. It came with two fuel tanks; one 36 gal and one 16 gal. I was told this is because they added to extra fuel tank when the larger Yanmar engine was added. I have a fuel transfer pump that was designed to transfer from smaller to larger when needed. It doesn't work. I have to get warranty work to make the system operable. I have checked electrical continuity, valve alignment, and everything to ensure free flow. I called our local dealer where we purchased the boat and was told they don't even have any diagrams or schematics of the system. I contacted Hunter and they sent me 4 photos of the tank and gauge that is located on the power panel. In my opinion, poor design that was quick fix, that didn't work.

Ditto, we have 50 gal tank

Our H41 commissioned this year also has a single 50 gal fuel tank in lieu of the advertised 36 gal tank. We have the 2 state-room model and optional larger Yanmar.
